Amma’s 2016 Visit to Maurice 1705
Amma in Mauritius 25-26 April 2016, M.A Center, Mauritius
Every year since our beloved Amma’s last visit in 2013, we were querying and wishing to see her back again. On hearing of our beloved Amma’s coming a few months ago, we were excited to begin the preparation for Her venue. We were full of enthusiasm to give a helping hand in any way we can to make Her program a success. While putting our effort, sometimes we can feel that with the Grace of Amma, the works were guided beyond our control to help in the process of making the program go through well.
Months before, under the guidance of Swami Sadashiv Chaitanya, the renovation works such as tarring of the parking lot, aluminum works, accommodation of a rest room for Amma on the ground floor, electrical works, air conditioning works, setting up of new stage which opens on the parking lot giving the opportunity for a greater number of people to be able to see Amma during Her program and last but not least, painting of the ashram.
Under the supervision of Swamiji, the stage set up and decoration was beautifully done. A nice tent was erected to accommodate around 10,000 people of different community and different walks of life to come for Amma’s Darshan. The awareness campaign for Amma’s visit started well before her arrival. Bhajans were organized all around the island whereby Swamiji personally invited Mauritians to come for Amma’s Darshan. Amma’s arrival notice was posted all around the island- on devotees’ cars, vans and all strategic areas that caught the eyes of the general public. Radio/TV announcement were being broadcasted regularly. Many people became aware of Her arrival through newspapers’ announcement, billboards, pamphlets, phone messages and via M.A Center’s website.
The two days’ program consisted of Amma’s satsang, bhajans and darshan. Each and every person who came to the program benefited from Amma’s wisdom, compassion and love. Shani and Rahu pujas were also held at the ashram early morning.
Amma arrived in Mauritius on the 24th of April. With utmost love and yearning for Her presence, devotees awaited Her arrival at the ashram while chanting “Om Amriteshaiye Namah”. She was welcomed with great fanfare. Pada Puja was performed as a sign of respect and welcome to our beloved Amma. Garlanding Her and doing Her Arthi forms part of the ritual of Her arrival in the ashram. Seeing Her entering the ashram fulfilled our hearts with contentment since years of awaiting came to an end. As she walked to the stage, she acknowledged each and everyone in one way or another. This sight described the loving Mother and children relationship; an eternal bond. Her presence filled the ashram with divine energy. Amma sang a few bhajans and distributed prasad dinner to all people present. With great gratitude, we all had prasad while knowing deep within that receiving food from the Mother of the Universe Herself is a unique experience and its benefits are quite subtle.
During the two days, Rahu and Sani puja were held in the ashram under the lead of Swami Ramakrishnan. Before starting the puja, Swamiji talked about the benefits of partaking in these pujas which have been prescribed by Amma Herself to alleviate suffering and ameliorate the negative effects of the planets when moving to unfavourable positions. Participating in these pujas in the physical presence of Amma in Mauritius has surely benefited many people.
On both days, Amma was welcomed on stage by devotees garlanding Her and by a welcome note by Swami Sadashiva, Minister in Charge for Mauritius. Swamiji warmly welcome Amma to Mauritius and delivered a speech about the activities being held at the ashram. Amma also received a warm welcome back to Mauritius by different dignitaries. Amongst many others were Vice President of the Republic of Mauritius, His Excellency, Mr. Mr Paramasivum Pillay Vyapoory and the Right Honorable Lady, Mrs. Sarojini Jugnauth, spouse of the Prime Minister, Sir Aneerood Jugnauth Mr Xavier Luc Duval Deputy Prime Minister of Mauritius, Minister of Health Anil Gayan, Minister of Arts & Culture Mr Santaram Baboo, MP’s Mr Alan Ganoo, Mr Joe Lesjongard, Ms Sandhya Boygah & Mr Ramkaun Sarvanand and several other dignitaries were there to welcome Amma on the dais.
Amma’s arrival signalled the launch of several new humanitarian initiatives, which were formally inaugurated by the above dignitaries during Amma’ official program and the ongoing work of Amma’s volunteers in Mauritius was also highlighted during the program:
Monthly ration
The Amma Centre in Mauritius has been providing monthly ration to many households encountering financial difficulties over the last years. During Amma’s 2016 visit, the numbers of beneficiaries were extended to 60 families and member of each family received their monthly ration and blessings from Amma.
Amrita Vidyalayam
In recent years, suicide has been spreading like epidemic among farmers in India who suffer from debt and crop failure. Often, seeing no hope for themselves or their future generations, whole families commit suicide together. Through providing scholarships to children of farmers living below the poverty line, Embracing the World aims to lay a stronger economic foundation upon which these families can base their lives. The scholarships give the children new options to break out of the cycle of poverty and give hope to the whole family, therefore working to prevent suicide. Embracing the World in currently providing scholarships to more than 51,000 children. The goal is to reach 100,000 children throughout India. Amma has extended this program to other countries like Kenya and during Amma’s 2016 visit in Mauritius the Amrita Vidyalayam was launched for the first time in Mauritius. With the blessing of Amma, Children from needy Mauritian families were handed cash-award to support them in their educational studies.
- Greenfriends
Green initiatives have been a very important part of Embracing the World activities in Mauritius. To commemorate Greenfriends Mauritius, saplings were distributed to devotees in view of encouraging them to take care of Mother Nature. With the blessing of Amma, each devotee received a plant with care and joy.
Furthermore, on this special occasion, the magazine “Embracing Mauritius 2016” was launched by Amma. Months before the program, under lead of Swamiji, Amma’s children tirelessly work on the content and design of the magazine. The magazine commemorates the 18th Anniversary of the Brahmasthanam Temple and includes Amma’s messages and various experiences of Amma’s disciples.
During her public program, Amma gave spiritual discourses in Malayalam which were translated in French. Creole translations were simultaneously projected on the screen to ensure that Amma’s message reached each and every one and; if put into practice, it will certainly uplift people. Amongst her many messages, Amma emphasized on the importance of protecting Mother Nature and the benefits of cultivation our own vegetables. Amma said that each and everyone have a responsibility toward the environment and we should take a vow of planting trees each year. She talked about the loss of values throughout the world and how technologies are being misused. Amma said that nowadays there is less concern for elders in the society. Amma emphasized that meditation, spiritual practices and selfless service should be part of our daily activities. Amma said that Seva should be seen as an opportunity to progress spiritually and only the doer would benefit. Amma related several anecdotes and stories in line with her messages to instil its essence to the audience.
During her 2016 visit, Amma sings several bhajans which make our senses and soul resonate. Even after her departure, we can keep on hearing these mind capturing bhajans resounding in our ears. Amongst her different devotional song were “ Vigna Nashaka Sri Vinayaka”, “ Murali Manohara Madhava” and “ Vrindava Kunjavihari”. Amma’s arthi were held on both days.
All throughout the program, simultaneous to Amma’s Darshan, devotional songs were delivered by devotees from Amritapuri. The Mauritian Group also sang under the lead of Swamiji. This year, Amma’s children from Mauritius composed a local song dedicated to Amma: “ Nou Mama Amma.. prends dans to lebras; donne nou beaucoup couraze; donne nou to la lumiere Amma” (Our mother Amma,.. take us in your arms,.. give us lots of courage,.. shower your light upon us).
When the two days’ program was nearing its end, Swamiji conveyed his heartfelt thanks to all organizations that have supported the program: the Police force, the municipality of Quatre-Bornes, the Special Mobile Force, CWA, CEB, RDA, and Amma’s devotees among others . He also thanked all the sponsors who booked space in her souvenir “ Embracing Mauritius 2016’ and took the opportunity to thank all those who helped the M.A Center in making the event a success.
Just before leaving the stage, Amma danced the baduga tribal dance. Everyone was rejoiced and elated in that wonderful atmosphere.
Amma departed Mauritius on April 27th. It seemed that the program and the wonderful time came to an end in a blink of an eye. Having Amma’s physical presence at Her ashram is quite an intensive experience for each and every one. Everyone feels that they have been blessed by Amma in one way or another. And being with Amma is a non-lasting Darshan. Her smile or glance captivates our attention. People can sit for long watching Her giving darshan. Amma who was walking towards the ashram exit, surprised everyone when she suddenly changed direction and walked towards the Brahmasthanam Temple. After circumambulating the Brahmasthanam Temple, she graciously walked to the car while acknowledging everyone’s presence either with a blissful smile or loving touch. While waving to everyone, She left the M.A center premises. It’s quite sad to see Her leaving but she has instilled in us many life memorable moment and experiences during these two days program that we will treasure for long, till her next visit that we are praying to come very very soon.

Amma’s Message on 26 June 2016

Amma said:
“The ocean’s tide rises as though to attain something but it drops down the next moment. Similarly people think that the happiness is outside and they get tired chasing it. Where is true happiness? If we really like a person we will be happy with whatever he gives us. But if there is a person we don’t like we won’t be happy no matter what he gives. It is because of the mind that we like the object given by the person who we like yet don’t like the same object given by the person who we don’t like. Say the lover gives an inexpensive object such as a pen or handkerchief to his beloved. She might preserve it carefully and gaze at it daily. Likewise it is the mind that values or devalues something. We need to understand its nature and go to its substratum. This understanding will help us remain unaffected by sorrow. The person who is familiar with the nature of firecrackers will enjoy seeing the explosion. Whereas the person who doesn’t know might mistake it to be a bomb explosion and faint.
Imagine two friends walking when suddenly firecrackers explode from a temple. Hearing the explosion one person laughs out loud while the other person faints. After coming back to the normal state the second man says, “I thought it was the noise from a bomb.” The person who had the understanding enjoyed while the person without the understanding got quite a shock. Most of us don’t even know that we are being enslaved by the objects of the world. Once we realize this we will try to break free. Only if we realize that we are imprisoned will we make an effort for freedom. The caged bird constantly tries to escape from the cage. The bird puts the effort because of the understanding that he is caged. Similarly only if we have the understanding that we are imprisoned will we try to get free.
At times some mentally depressed people come for Amma’s darshan. Usually Amma asks, “Son do you get proper sleep?” The person says, “No.” And Amma suggests the person to meet a psychiatrist and undergo counseling. The person says, “I don’t have any problem.” He is not willing to accept that he is depressed. Only when the person acknowledges the problem and takes the proper medication will it be possible to keep it under control. Even after starting they may stop the medication abruptly. During certain seasons the symptoms increase and the person stops medicines during that season. The disease becomes aggravated. Then the person becomes violent and hallucinates an imaginary world. Additionally the medicine might have some side effects. However those medicines give temporary help to depressed patients. The nerves that are stressed get some relief from the medication. It is like fixing the brakes of a vehicle. In short, the person who has sickness should first of all acknowledge that he is sick. Only then will he take medicine and be benefitted.
Actually we are complete. We cannot increase or decrease the value of a 500 rupee note. We need to know: I am Atman. First of all one needs to become a good human being. That is real divinity. Right now we have learned to fly like a bird and swim like a fish but we have forgotten to behave like a human being. Gossip and loose talk merely wastes our energy. Instead if we give a satsang, the energy will benefit ourselves and others as well. Instead, some people harass others, get angry and make people sad. The person carries around negative thoughts like rotten vegetables and gets dirty. We carry an unwanted inner load and then dump it on others as well.
Speak only when needed. Sleep and eat according to the need. Be moderate in all endeavors. We become adharmic (unrighteous) only when we do things in excess. We move away from dharma and forget our duties towards our self and the world around us. Why were we given this human birth? Even worms procreate and die away later. Having achieved a human birth have we done anything more than this? At least the worms don’t harm others but we humans have damaged nature. It is true that humans have made some new inventions but have failed to develop the proper awareness. If we teach the right understanding of dharma to children they will be helpful to others and be seated within on their inner throne.”
