Brahmasthanam Temple PranaPratishta
17th Anniversary – Sunday May 3rd, 2015
(07 May ’15)
The M.A Centre celebrated the 17th anniversary of the Brahmasthanam Temple (Abode of the Absolute) the one and only Brahmasthanam Temple outside of India. On this propitious day of May 3rd, 2015, the Lalitha Devi Sahasnamavali was chanted from dawn to dusk. Morning program also consisted of Meditation, Satsang, Bhajans and in the evening, a Maha Sarvaiswarya Yagna for prosperity was performed at the M.A Centre by priests from the Sri Amman Kovil from south of Mauritius.
On this very day, The Brahmasthanam Temple along with the deities was beautifully decorated. The Goddess Devi was astounding in a blue saree and was looking majestically alluring. This Amma’s Brahmasthanam temple is so different from the common temples of Mauritius. It was constructed according to Amma’s sankalpa and Consecrated by Amma Herself. While many temples have shrines to more than one deity, each deity is represented by a separate murthi (idol). Amma’s temples have only one granite Statue, carved with four faces, one on each side. The shrine depicts the images of Shiva’s Divine family: Shiva, Devi, Ganesha and a Serpent (representing the Kundalini power, Rahu and Murugan). This clearly points to the underlying unity inherent in the myriad deities of the Hindu culture: the One with many faces.
The morning program started at 10:30 a.m. with the chanting of the Ashtotram, 108 names of Amma. Amma’s Paduka was worshipped with rose petals which symbolically means that we are offering ourselves (complete surrender) at Her lotus feet. After the chanting of the Ashtotram, and Lalita Saharanamavali, Swamiji sang bhajans. Amongst were “Hanumat Bal do”, “Snehamamritanandini” and other devotees also sang some bhajans. Swamiji then delivered satsang on the importance of worshipping the deities in the Brahmasthanam temple and on how beneficial it is for a spiritual seeker to frequently circumambulate the temple, especially one that has had Prana Pratishtha done by a Mahatma like Amma. He also talked about the roles of parents in inculcating spirituality to their children at a very young age. Swamiji talked about how we should pray and emphasized that even if we have attained all our desires in life through sincere prayers, we still can express our gratitude to the Lord. The morning program concluded with closing prayers and the distribution of mahaprasad around 1:00pm.
The chanting of the 1000 names of Sri Lalitha Devi resumed until dusk. The evening program started around 6:30 pm with the Maha Sarvaiswarya Yagna for prosperity. The priests from the Sri Amman Kovil of Mauritius started the yagna with the invocation of the deities and performed the yagna along with the continuous chanting of mantras in honor of the Goddess. One by one, devotees had the opportunity to participate by providing offerings in the yagna. The atmosphere was energized, which gave us a sense of being full of life with the Goddess’s blessing. After the yagna, Swamiji along with the priests performed abhishekam and arthi of the Bramasthanam temple deities.
The program concluded around 11:00 p.m. with Amma’s arthi. Swamiji thanked the priests and the devotees for their presence and participation in this unique program. All the devotees experienced great peace and happiness after immersing themselves in worship and spiritual activities the whole day.
We thank Amma on her compassion and love for consecrating this unique Brahmasthanam temple in Mauritius and for sending one of Her senior disciples to Mauritius for the good functioning of the Ashram and the Brahmasthanam temple.
